Driver at Embassy and Consulate General of Denmark in Nigeria

The Embassy in Abuja and its trade office at the Consulate General in Lagos are accredited to Nigeria, in order to represent Denmark in all areas of bilateral relations from foreign policy to commercial activities and consular assistance.

The Embassy and the Consulate General are an integral part of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and therefore share the same overall objectives and the same vision, mission and values as the rest of the organisation.
We are looking for a driver and skilled team player who is ready to take on a variety of tasks at the Embassy of Denmark in Abuja. 

Main tasks and responsibilities

Drive the Ambassador and Embassy staff to and from meetings etc.
Dispatch and pick up Embassy mail to/from locations in Abuja
Maintain Embassy vehicles, including armoured vehicles
Receipt of mail, parcel and documents at the Embassy
Perform other tasks related to Embassy business as directed by management and team leader
Participate in competence development (global, regional and domestic)

Essential skills:

Strong driving skills and a valid driving license
Previous experience as a driver with international organizations and/or government agencies/Embassies or diplomats
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
Knowledge of how to use a computer and basic office programmes (Outlook, Word and Excel)

Advantageous skills:

Strong advantage if you have received traning to drive armoured vehicles
Able to contribute positively as part of a team, helping out with various tasks as required
Knowledge of office practices and procedures  
Being a team player but also possessing an ability to work and think independently 
Good judgement, professional integrity, adaptability, flexibility and attention to detail

Employment conditions

You will be offered full time employment. 
Starting date as soon as possible (pending security clearance, see below)
The contract is based on the staff rules at the Embassy of Denmark. The position is subject to a 3 months’ initial probation period.
Your employment is subject to successful security clearance by the relevant Danish authorities.
Working hours are 40 hours per week. However, as a driver you will be expected to do extra hours and often outside of standard working hours.
You will be entitled to 25 days of paid holidays per year.
Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results. 
As part of your salary, you will be covered by a workplace pension scheme.
You and your close family members will be offered reasonable coverage of sickness expenses.
